New Zealand is becoming Lead Free in May 2026!
As part of the 2022 Building Code update, Acceptable Solution G12/AS1 Water Supplies was amended to limit the maximum allowable lead content and set out corrosion resistance properties in certain plumbing products.

Lead-Free Plumbing — Our Commitment to You
We want to keep you in the loop about a major update in the New Zealand Building Code that affects drinking water and plumbing products. You might have heard that from 1 May 2026, all plumbing products containing copper alloys, like brass taps, valves, and pipe fittings must meet strict new limits for lead content and improved corrosion resistance. These changes are all about making our drinking water safer for everyone.
‘Lead free’ has been defined as a plumbing product or material in contact with potable water that has a weighted average lead content of no more than 0.25%. The good news? We haven’t waited until the last minute. We’re already stocking a full range of lead-free brass products, so you can start future-proofing your projects today and stay well ahead of the new rules. This way, your builds can stay compliant and safe without rushing as the deadline approaches.
